What we know so far about the Queensland Sheep and Goat eID Assistance Program.

The legislation around identification for sheep and goats is changing. In order to strengthen livestock health through traceability the QLD government has committed to phasing in mandatory sheep and goat electronic identification (eID) beginning on January 1st of 2025.
In order to support producers making the change to eID, the QLD government will be offering limited financial assistance. The applications are not yet open, but the funding is limited and the program will close as soon as the funds are exhausted so it's important applications are done promptly once they start accepting them. We wanted to keep you up to date so you don’t miss out when the applications open.
In order to be Eligible producers must:
-Be a registered producer with a property Identification Code based in QLD
-Have 30 or more sheep or managed goats
-Have a current registered biosecurity entity (RBE) registration
-Must not have claimed assistance through any other Queensland Government eID
-Only one claim per Queensland PIC
-Agree to be audited if requested
Eligible items include eID readers including panel and handheld readers and the purchase of eID devices. Ineligible items include eID hardware including computers, laptops, tablets, and infrastructure for connectivity, purchase, installation, and training, and software subscriptions.
The assistance will consist of a rebate of up to 50% (up to $1,600 per pic based in Qld). The funding for this program is limited and the program will close when all the funds are exhausted. We will try our best to keep you informed but would encourage everyone to be checking the link below for application opening date and forms. When open, the rebate will be available for purchases that have been made from January 1st 2023.
